A well-established financial institution is seeking an experienced and highly motivated Audit Manager to join its Internal Audit function in Durban. This is an opportunity to play an important role in strengthening governance, risk management, regulatory compliance and the internal control environment across the organisation.
The Internal Audit function provides independent assurance to Executive Management and the Board Audit Committee regarding the effectiveness of governance, risk management and internal controls.
The Audit Manager will plan, lead and execute risk-based internal audits across the organisation. The position provides independent assurance on the adequacy and effectiveness of governance, risk management, internal controls and regulatory compliance.
The successful candidate will supervise audit assignments, manage senior stakeholder relationships, develop audit team members and contribute to the ongoing improvement of the Internal Audit function.
Audit Planning and Execution
• Lead and manage end-to-end internal audit engagements across multiple business areas.
• Develop risk-based audit programmes, scopes and testing strategies.
• Evaluate the design and operating effectiveness of key controls.
• Use data analysis to identify emerging risks, trends and potential control weaknesses.
• Ensure audit assignments are completed within agreed timelines and budgets.
Audit Reporting
• Prepare clear, high-quality audit reports for Executive Management and the Board Audit Committee.
• Articulate audit findings, root causes, risk implications and practical recommendations.
• Present audit observations and conclusions to senior management.
• Maintain consistency and quality across audit documentation and working papers.
Stakeholder Management
• Build credible and constructive relationships with business and support functions.
• Participate in management discussions concerning governance, risk and control matters.
• Provide advisory support on control design and regulatory requirements when requested, while maintaining Internal Audit's independence and objectivity.
Audit Quality and Team Development
• Ensure compliance with the organisation's Internal Audit methodology and applicable Global Internal Audit Standards, including the IPPF.
• Maintain high standards of audit quality, evidence and documentation.
• Review audit working papers prepared by audit team members.
• Coach, mentor and support the professional development of auditors.
• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the Internal Audit function.
Regulatory and Compliance Assurance
Assess compliance with relevant legislation, regulations and internal requirements, including:
• Banking regulations and regulatory guidance.
• South African Reserve Bank requirements.
• Prudential Authority requirements.
• The Financial Intelligence Centre Act and related obligations.
• Anti-Money Laundering and Counter-Terrorist Financing requirements.
• Internal policies, procedures and control standards.
• Monitor regulatory developments and assess their potential impact on the organisation and its control environment.
Follow-Up Reviews
• Monitor the implementation of agreed management actions.
• Conduct follow-up reviews to verify that findings have been appropriately remediated.
• Report overdue actions and significant control weaknesses to management and the Board Audit Committee.
Qualifications
A bachelor's degree in one of the following or a closely related field:

• Accounting
• Finance
• Risk Management
• Commerce
Professional Certification
One or more of the following professional certifications would be advantageous:
• CIA - Certified Internal Auditor
• CA(SA) - Chartered Accountant South Africa
• CISA - Certified Information Systems Auditor
Experience
• A minimum of five years' Internal Audit experience.
• A minimum of three years' management or supervisory experience.
• Experience within banking, financial services, regulatory compliance or risk management environments.
• Strong working knowledge of AML/CFT, FICA and banking regulations.
• Proven experience engaging with Executive Management and Audit Committees.
