About the position

We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Assistant Accountant to join a dynamic finance team. The successful candidate will play a key role in maintaining accurate financial records, supporting the Financial Manager, and ensuring compliance with financial policies and regulatory requirements across multiple group entities.
Key Duties & Responsibilities

  • Manage and maintain general ledger accounts for group entities
  • Ensure accurate VAT allocations and calculations across all entities
  • Maintain integrity, accuracy, and completeness of accounting records and information systems
  • Prepare weekly accounts payable and accounts receivable reports for management
  • Review and ensure completeness of weekly bank payments
  • Manage and prepare balance sheets and profit & loss statements
  • Reconcile control accounts and resolve discrepancies in line with company guidelines
  • Audit financial transactions and verify supporting documentation and authorisations
  • Ensure compliance with financial policies and regulatory requirements
  • Assist with preparation of client proposals and sales quotations (ad hoc)
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records
  • Coordinate and liaise with internal departments to support intercompany activities
  • Manage group insurance schedules, claims, and administrative requirements
  • Oversee fixed asset management
  • Supervise and mentor junior and intermediate accountants
  • Provide ongoing support to the Financial Manager at all operational and administrative levels

Minimum Requirements

  • Minimum 5+ years' experience in an accounting environment
  • Strong experience with general ledger functions
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel
  • Experience with accounting software (experience with Xero advantageous)
  • Strong attention to detail and analytical skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong time management and organisational skills
  • Ability to prioritise and meet deadlines independently
  • Proven supervisory and leadership capability
