About the position

Our client, a respected Art Museum based in Stellenbosch, is looking for a passionate and creative Outreach Museum Educator to join its Education team.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone who believes in the transformative power of art and education. The successful candidate will develop and deliver engaging educational programmes that connect learners, educators and communities with one of South Africa's leading visual art collections.

Working closely with the Senior Museum Educator, you will help expand the museum's outreach initiatives, create meaningful learning experiences, and build lasting partnerships with schools, educators and community organisations, with a particular focus on underserved communities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and facilitate outreach programmes, educational workshops and guided museum tours.

  • Build and maintain relationships with schools, educators and community organisations.

  • Design engaging educational resources linked to museum exhibitions and permanent collections.

  • Coordinate outreach activities, schedules and programme administration.

  • Assist with educational planning, annual budgets and programme development.

  • Manage educational materials, equipment and workshop resources.

  • Capture programme data and maintain accurate records.

  • Collaborate with museum staff, artists, facilitators and external partners to deliver meaningful public programmes.

Minimum Requirements

  • Teaching qualification.

  • Knowledge of practical art education methodologies.

  • Knowledge of Art History and Art Theory.

  • Experience using Adobe Creative Suite and/or Canva to create educational resources.

  • Strong computer literacy, including Microsoft Office.

  • Fluent in English and Afrikaans (isiXhosa will be advantageous).

Experience Required

  • Previous experience in museum education or gallery education.

  • Experience facilitating educational programmes, workshops or guided learning.

  • Experience working with the South African CAPS curriculum (Visual Arts and/or Design) will be advantageous.

  • Experience working with learners from diverse backgrounds.

  • A genuine interest in contemporary African art and culture.

Additional Information
