About the position
Our client, a leading South African agricultural producer, is seeking an Agronomist Manager to lead agronomy and production initiatives, implement sustainable farming practices, and drive operational excellence across multi-site farming operations. This role offers an opportunity to influence agronomic strategy, collaborate with senior management, and contribute to meaningful impact by enhancing crop yield, quality, and sustainability across South Africa. The position reports directly to the General Manager.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead agronomy and production activities across all farming operations, ensuring optimal crop performance and yield.
- Oversee agricultural programs, irrigation systems, soil health initiatives, pest and disease management, and continuous improvement projects.
- Drive productivity, quality, and sustainability while ensuring compliance with Global GAP and internal standards.
- Manage, mentor, and develop a team of agronomists and field technicians.
- Coordinate operational activities across multiple sites, ensuring consistency and operational excellence.
- Lead research and innovation initiatives, including crop management strategies, seed variety trials, and agrochemical testing.
- Collaborate closely with senior management to align operational activities with the company's strategic objectives.
Experience and Educational Requirements:
- BSc in Agriculture or Agronomy.
- Minimum of 5 years' experience in production or agronomy management within multi-site operations.
- Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to manage teams and projects effectively.
- Strong technical, analytical, and problem-solving capabilities.
- Knowledge of modern agricultural technologies and sustainable farming practices.
