About the position
Psybergate is an IT company that builds bespoke software solutions and provides highly skilled resources to its clients.
We are looking for an Actuarial Specialist: Microinsurance to join a leading insurance team on a permanent role in Sandton.
What you will be doing:
- Collect, analyse, and interpret data to support actuarial functions.
- Prepare reports and presentations for internal and external stakeholders.
- Analyse mortality, morbidity, lapse rates, and performance metrics for life and non-life insurance products.
- Assist in the development and pricing of new insurance products.
- Develop pricing models for life and non-life insurance products.
- Conduct profitability analyses and support deal structuring.
- Identify, assess, and manage risks associated with insurance products.
- Support the development of risk mitigation strategies, stress testing, and scenario analysis.
- Evaluate underwriting risks for non-life insurance policies.
- Ensure compliance with actuarial standards and regulatory requirements.
- Prepare statutory reports for life insurance products and ensure non-life products comply with local regulations.
- Conduct experience studies to inform assumptions used in pricing, reserving, and risk management.
- Analyse historical data to set assumptions and review claims and exposure data for non-life insurance products.
- Work closely with underwriting, finance, and product development teams.
- Communicate actuarial findings and recommendations effectively to senior management.
- Present insurance risk assessments and assist in refining underwriting guidelines.
- Stay updated with industry trends, actuarial techniques, and regulatory changes.
- Participate in relevant actuarial exams and training sessions.
What we are looking for:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or related field.
- Making good progress towards an Actuarial qualification.
- 3 - 5 years’ experience within the financial services industry
- 3–5 years’ working experience in an actuarial role, ideally with exposure to life and non-life insurance.
- Experience in pricing, product development, and risk management.
- Strong analytical, innovative, and collaborative skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
