About the position

A dynamic accounting and consulting firm is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Accountant Manager to join their growing remote team. The firm provides outsourced bookkeeping, accounting, payroll, taxation, and advisory services to a diverse portfolio of small to medium-sized businesses across various industries.

This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled accounting professional who thrives in a client-focused consulting environment and enjoys managing multiple client portfolios. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing accounting functions, payroll administration, tax compliance, financial reporting, and advisory support while building strong and lasting client relationships.

Responsibilities:

Accounting & Financial Management:

  • Manage the full accounting function for multiple outsourced clients.
  • Prepare and process monthly journals, accruals, and reconciliations.
  • Prepare monthly management accounts and financial reports.
  • Maintain accurate general ledger and trial balance records.
  • Perform bank, creditor, debtor, and balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Monitor client cash flow and assist with financial planning support.
  • Ensure accounting records comply with applicable accounting standards and company policies.
  • Prepare annual financial statements and assist with year-end audits where applicable.

Payroll Administration:

  • Process monthly and weekly payrolls for multiple clients.
  • Ensure payroll accuracy, including earnings, deductions, leave, and overtime calculations.
  • Manage payroll-related statutory submissions and reconciliations.
  • Ensure compliance with labour legislation and payroll regulations.
  • Assist clients with payroll queries and reporting requirements.

Taxation & Compliance:

  • Prepare and submit VAT, PAYE, UIF, SDL, and provisional tax returns.
  • Assist with individual, trust, and corporate income tax calculations and submissions.
  • Liaise with SARS regarding client queries, audits, objections, and compliance matters.
  • Monitor tax deadlines and ensure timely submissions for all clients.
  • Ensure ongoing compliance with all statutory and regulatory requirements.

Tax Advisory Services:

  • Provide basic to intermediate tax advisory support to clients.
  • Advise clients on tax-efficient business structures and financial practices.
  • Identify tax risks, savings opportunities, and compliance gaps.
  • Assist clients with tax planning and budgeting considerations.
  • Keep clients informed of relevant legislative and tax regulation changes.
  • Support senior management with specialised tax advisory projects when required.

Client Relationship Management:

  • Build and maintain strong professional relationships with clients.
  • Act as a trusted advisor and primary accounting contact for allocated clients.
  • Provide clients with accurate, timely, and practical financial guidance.
  • Assist clients in improving financial processes and internal controls.
  • Attend client meetings where required.

Administrative & Consulting Support:

  • Maintain accurate electronic and physical client records.
  • Assist with the implementation and optimisation of accounting systems and processes.
  • Support internal process improvement initiatives.
  • Assist with onboarding new clients and managing accounting transitions.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree or Diploma in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Completed SAIPA, SAICA, or similar articles.
  • Professional designation will be advantageous.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years accounting experience.
  • Previous experience within an accounting practice or outsourced accounting environment will be highly advantageous.
  • Experience managing multiple client portfolios simultaneously.
  • Payroll processing experience advantageous.
  • Strong taxation and SARS compliance experience required.

Advantageous:

  • Experience working with SME clients across multiple industries.
  • Exposure to advisory and consulting environments.
  • Experience with cloud-based accounting systems.
  • Knowledge of business process improvement and financial consulting.

Skills:

  • Proficient in accounting software such as Xero & Sage.
  • Draftworx (advantageous)
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills
  • Good understanding of South African tax legislation and payroll compliance.
