About the position

Our client is a dynamic and growing organisation with interests across multiple business entities and ventures. They are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Accountant to join their team in Tygervalley, Cape Town. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the financial records of multiple entities, ensuring accurate financial reporting, maintaining compliance with applicable regulations, and supporting management with financial insights to drive business growth and expansion initiatives. This role offers broad exposure across financial accounting, management reporting, inventory accounting, and strategic finance support.

Responsibilities:

Financial Accounting & Reporting

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records in accordance with IFRS.
  • Process and reconcile invoices, payments, receipts, and bank transactions.
  • Prepare monthly management accounts, including detailed variance analysis and supporting schedules.
  • Prepare annual financial statements and assist with year-end processes.
  • Reconcile general ledger accounts and investigate and resolve discrepancies.
  • Maintain fixed asset registers and depreciation schedules.

Management Accounting & Financial Analysis

  • Support budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow planning processes.
  • Assist management by providing financial analysis, insights, and recommendations to support business decisions.
  • Analyse financial data to identify trends, risks, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Support financial planning relating to business expansion initiatives and new ventures.

Inventory & Cost Accounting

  • Manage inventory accounting processes across multiple entities.
  • Perform monthly stock reconciliations, inventory counts, and stock valuations.
  • Ensure accurate costing methodologies and inventory reporting.
  • Manage inter-company billings and related reconciliations.
  • Assist in implementing and improving inventory controls and reporting processes.

Compliance & Audit

  • Ensure compliance with tax legislation and prepare VAT and other statutory returns.
  • Support internal and external audits by preparing and providing required documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with internal policies, accounting standards, and regulatory requirements.

Team Leadership & Process Improvement

  • Oversee and support bookkeeping staff, ensuring accuracy and adherence to deadlines.
  • Review monthly processing and ensure the integrity of financial information.
  • Identify opportunities to improve financial processes, controls, and automation initiatives.
  • Support ad hoc finance projects and reporting requirements as needed.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Professional qualification such as SAIPA, SAIBA, or CIMA will be advantageous.
  • Minimum of 5-7 years experience in accounting or finance roles.
  • Strong experience in management accounting, inventory accounting, and financial reporting.
  • Experience managing multiple entities and inter-company transactions will be advantageous.
  • Experience within a dynamic, growth-focused environment is beneficial.
  • Proficiency in accounting software such as Sage Intacct or similar ERP systems.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.

  • Proactive mindset with a focus on continuous improvement and process optimisation.

  • Hybrid working arrangement available upon successful completion of probation, with 2-3 days in-office and 2-3 days remote per week. Note that in-office requirements may increase during audit periods.
