About the position
Accountant
Area: Pretoria East
Salary: R29000 P/M
Purpose of position: Reporting to the Financial Director, be responsible for the full accounting function. AP and AR cycles, run month-end close, prepare statutory submissions, manage fixed-asset register, reconcile bank accounts, and support the external audit.
Daily Duties:
- Process customer invoices, supplier bills, vendor payments and customer payments through to GL
- Maintain the Chart of Accounts; post manual journal entries with proper supporting documentation
- Reconcile bank accounts daily and clear suspense items the same week
- Manage debtor follow-ups, customer statements, and credit-control communication
- Three-way match (PO ? GRN ? Vendor bill) and resolve variances with the buying team
- Capture and apportion landed costs(freight, customs duty, clearing, SARS Customs VAT) on imported stock
Monthly close
- Run the month-end close pack: provisions, accruals, deferred income, FX revaluation, depreciation
- Prepare and post the monthly depreciation run; maintain the fixed asset registerend-to-end (acquisitions, disposals, additions to FA via vendor bill)
- Reconcile inventory sub-ledger (FIFO costing) to GL
- Produce management accounts - P&L, balance sheet, cashflow, AR/AP aging - within 5 working days of month-end
- Maintain the 13-week cashflow forecast and flag funding risks early
- Reconcile inter-company balances across SA and Zimbabwe
Statutory & compliance
- Compute, file and pay VAT201monthly (including Customs VAT register reconciliation)
- Compute and file EMP201monthly; EMP501 bi-annually
- Issue IRP5 / IT3certificates to staff at year-end
- Prepare and file provisional tax(IRP6) and the annual ITR14 corporate income tax return
- Compute and process DWTon dividends declared
- Year-end close, IFRS for SMEs financial statements prep, and audit pack handover
- Maintain SARS eFiling and statutory document compliance
Audit & governance
- Be the day-to-day point of contact for our external auditors
- Maintain the audit pack (TB, ledger detail, JE register, AR/AP aging, fixed asset register, bank recs, VAT register, payroll reconciliations)
- Maintain ISO 9001-aligned financial records and ensure documentation supports our annual surveillance audit
- Support related-party disclosure preparation (IFRS §33) and IFRS §22 current/non-current loan splits where applicable
Group / multi-currency
- Process multi-currency transactions (ZAR, USD, EUR, GBP) and apply FX revaluation at month-end
- Support consolidation of Group (Zimbabwe, USD-denominated)
- Support related-party transactions and director's loan accounting (incl. s7C deemed-interest calculations)
Qualifications/Skills/Requirements
- Com Accountingor equivalent (Honours is a plus)
- SAICA, SAIPA or CIMAregistration (qualified or in articles)
- 3-5 years' hands-on financial accounting experience, ideally in a SME or owner-managed business
- Confident with SARS eFiling- VAT201, EMP201, EMP501, IRP6, ITR14 from start to submission
- Solid understanding of IFRS for SMEs
- Comfortable with multi-currencytransactions and FX revaluation
- Bank reconciliationownership (CSV-driven reconciliation with vat-split capability)
- Strong Excel(pivot tables, lookups, comfort with structured workbooks for reconciliations)
- Experience with a modern accounting/ERP system (Sage Evolution, Sage 300, Xero, QuickBooks, NetSuite or similar) - use in-house ERP and will train
- Meticulous, detail-oriented, able to defend every number with supporting documentation
- Comfortable working independentlyand meeting deadlines without daily supervision
