The Accountant will ensure accurate day-to-day bookkeeping and monthly reconciliations up to Trial Balance, support audit and statutory reporting, and maintain strong financial controls across creditors, debtors, cash management, and fund/member-related accounting and reporting.
Key Performance Areas (KPAs)
- Accuracy and completeness of month-end reconciliations up to Trial Balance.
- Timely processing of creditors/debtors cycles and payment runs; effective cash flow visibility and control.
- Audit readiness: quality of working papers, speed of query resolution, and completeness of supporting documentation.
- Compliance: timely statutory/regulatory submissions (e.g., EMP201/EMP501/CIPC).
- Data integrity and adherence to internal controls and documented procedures.
Minimum Requirements
Qualifications & Experience:
- B.Com./B.Compt. or related accounting degree with SAICA/SAIPA articles completed.
- Demonstrated experience in bookkeeping, reconciliations, and month-end close.
- Experience with audit preparation and statutory/regulatory submissions.
Technical Competencies:
- Strong reconciliation capability up to Trial Balance; sound understanding of allocations and internal controls.
- Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel.
- Comfortable in a MS Teams environment and with bank platforms for high-volume transaction processing.
Key Responsibilities
Daily & Weekly Finance Operations:
- Process accounting journals, bank entries, and invoices.
- Perform regular bank reconciliations and payment processing.
- Maintain petty cash and ensure accurate allocations to GL and departments.
- Collaborate on weekly cash flow reporting.
Creditors (Accounts Payable):
- Process supplier invoices and prepare payments.
- Reconcile month-end creditors and escalate irregularities.
- Maintain supplier records and agreements.
Debtors (Accounts Receivable) & Revenue:
- Issue statements, support debt collection, and perform ad hoc invoicing.
- Perform month-end reconciliations and update booking platforms.
Monthly Reconciliations & Reporting (Up to Trial Balance):
- Prepare monthly reports, including creditors, debtors, cost management, and project/grant allocations.
- Ensure reconciliations are completed and signed off by deadlines.
Management Accounting & Periodic Reporting:
- Prepare management accounts and reporting packs.
- Support quarterly/annual audit preparation with working papers and query resolution.
Audit, Annual Financial Statements, and Compliance Submissions:
- Assist with audit deliverables and statutory/regulatory submissions.
Grants, Donor Liaison, and Special Projects (Where Applicable):
- Assist with allocation of donations and grants; support reporting requirements.
Online Shop & Stock Support (Where Applicable):
- Support online sales reconciliation and stock take processes.
Systems, Controls, and Continuous Improvement:
- Maintain accounting systems, implement internal controls, and identify process improvement opportunities.
- Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders to resolve finance-related issues.
General Administration & Support:
- Support fleet and finance-related administrative tasks.
- Attend meetings and support team members during leave or unavailability.
