Accountant

About the position

We are looking for a reliable and detail-oriented Accountant to join our finance team. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing general accounting operations, preparing financial reports, and ensuring accurate financial record-keeping in compliance with applicable laws and standards. This role plays a key part in supporting the organization's financial health and operational efficiency.

This position will be based in Centurion.

REQUIREMENTS:

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• Professional accounting certification (e.g., SAIPA, SAICA, ACCA, or equivalent) is advantageous.
• Proven experience as an accountant or in a similar financial role.
• Experience with general ledger functions, financial reporting, and month-end/year-end close processes.
• Familiarity with VAT filing and tax submissions.
• Experience using accounting software such as CaseWare and Pastel.
• Skills & Competencies:
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy in financial record-keeping.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to perform bank reconciliations and prepare financial statements in accordance with accounting standards.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other financial analysis tools.
• Good understanding of internal financial controls, company policies, and regulatory requirements.
• Ability to collaborate with various departments and support budgeting and financial planning.
• Effective communication skills for presenting financial reports and analysis to senior management.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records, including accounts receivable (debtors), accounts payable (suppliers) and financial reports.
• Perform monthly bank reconciliations to ensure alignment between financial records and bank statements.
• Prepare annual financial statements in accordance with applicable accounting standards.
• Support month-end and year-end closing activities, including posting journal entries, performing account reconciliations, and conducting variance analysis.
• Maintain the general ledger and assist in consolidating management statements across multiple business units.
• Collaborate with various departments to support budgeting and financial planning processes.
• Ensure compliance with internal financial controls, company policies, and regulatory reporting requirements.
• Assist with external audits and liaise with auditors as needed.
• Manage VAT filing and ensure timely and accurate tax submissions.
• Analyse financial data and trends to provide insights that support strategic business decisions.
• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and finance automation projects.
• Generate and present financial reports and performance analysis to senior management.
• Process and manage payments in a timely and accurate manner.
• Utilize accounting software such as CaseWare and Pastel for financial processing and reporting.
