About the position
We are recruiting an Accountant to join the Pretoria-East head office of a well-established client.
Minimum Requirements
- Matric
- Bachelors Degree in Accounting/Finance/Related
- 3+ year's accounting experience
Overview of position
General Accounting
- Month-End Close & Management Reporting
- Manage the month-end close process, ensuring all journal entries, accruals, provisions and reconciliations are completed on time.
- Post journal entries accurately for reporting purposes, including management cost and admin cost to different divisions.
- Prepare and review monthly management accounts.
- Monitor actual vs. budget and highlight variances to management.
- Perform variance analysis and provide commentary on fluctuations and budget deviations.
- Ensure deadlines for reporting are consistently met.
- Prepare month-end close off pack
- Financial Recordkeeping & Controls
- Maintain accurate general ledger accounts and supporting documentation.
- Prepare, review and reconcile control accounts.
- Investigate and resolve discrepancies of control accounts in a timely manner.
- Provisions & Accruals
- Calculate and record accruals for unpaid expenses.
- Prepare provisions for liabilities such as leave pay, salary liabilities and bonuses.
- Compliance & Audit
- Assist with external audits by providing reconciliations, schedules, and explanations for external auditors annually.
- Address audit queries and implement corrective actions for identified weaknesses.
- Tax & Statutory Responsibilities
- Prepare and review VAT, payroll tax, and other statutory returns.
- Maintain secretarial records and submit annual returns.
- Administrative duties - Online banking payments
- Ensure that all new recipients are verified before adding to FNB online banking
- Release FNB payments
Accounts Payable
- Accounts Payable Management
- Supervise the full accounts payable cycle from supplier invoice receipt to supplier payment.
- Ensure accuracy in invoice validation, approvals, and posting.
- Payment Processes & Controls
- Implement and monitor internal controls to prevent errors and fraud.
- Ensure adherence to company policies, tax regulations, and audit requirements.
- Reconciliation & Reporting
- Review supplier account reconciliations and resolve discrepancies.
- Generate AP reports, including aging analysis, accruals, and payment reports.
Inventory
- Inventory Control & Accuracy
- Develop, implement, and monitor inventory control procedures.
- Ensure accurate stock levels through regular cycle counts and stock reconciliations.
- Systems & Reporting
- Manage and optimize the use of inventory management systems software.
- Generate and analyse stock reports (e.g., stock age, turnover, shrinkage, excess/obsolete inventory).
- Compliance & Procedures
- Ensure correct documentation for all inventory transactions.
- Coordinate with finance for accurate stock valuation and reporting.
