About the position
Our client based in Saldanha is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Accountant to join their finance team in the bio-refinery sector.
This role combines general accounting functions with payroll administration, ensuring accuracy in financial reporting, cost control, and compliance with labour and tax regulations. The ideal candidate has experience in industrial or manufacturing environments and is comfortable supporting both finance and HR-related processes.
Key Responsibilities:
General Accounting:
- Maintain accurate financial records and perform monthly, quarterly, and annual closings.
- Monitor cost of production, raw material usage, energy consumption, and yield variances.
- Manage fixed asset accounting and depreciation schedules.
- Support budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis processes.
- Assist with internal and external audits and ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards (GAAP/IFRS).
- Track and report capital projects and operational expenditures.
- Collaborate with operations, procurement, and supply chain teams to align accounting practices with plant activity.
Payroll Administration:
- Administer payroll processing for all employees, ensuring accuracy and compliance with local, state, and federal laws.
- Maintain and update payroll records, including new hires, terminations, bonuses, deductions, and leave balances.
- Ensure timely and accurate payment of wages and applicable taxes.
- Reconcile payroll transactions and interface with the general ledger.
- Prepare payroll reports for internal use and external compliance (e.g., tax filings, benefits reporting).
- Work with HR to maintain employee confidentiality and accurate compensation records.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (CPA or CMA preferred).
- 3+ years of accounting experience, with at least 1 year of direct payroll processing experience.
- Knowledge of GAAP and cost accounting, especially in industrial or manufacturing settings.
- Proficiency in accounting and payroll software (e.g., Sage Cloud Accounting and Sage Cloud Business Payroll.
- Strong Microsoft Excel skills.
- Familiarity with labour regulations, payroll tax filings, and benefits administration.
- Excellent attention to detail, analytical thinking, and communication skills.
Preferred Attributes:
- Experience in bio-refinery, chemical, renewable energy, or process manufacturing industries.
- Understanding of sustainability reporting, carbon credit accounting, or government grant tracking.
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and data integrity.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
