About the position
My client is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Accountant to join a well-established, close-knit team within the agri-trading industry. This role requires a strong grasp of accounting principles and hands-on experience managing debtors, creditors, reconciliations, and stock. The ideal candidate will bring 3-5 years of accounting experience, preferably within the agricultural sector, and be fluent in both Afrikaans and English
You'll be working in a high-volume, fast-paced environment and will take ownership of the full accounting function, including interaction with local farmers and international clients. This is a pivotal role in a small office where teamwork, precision, and professionalism are highly valued
Key Responsibilities
Full management of debtors and creditors functions
- Creating and managing invoices, statements, and payment postings
- Handling account queries efficiently and professionally
- Full control and reconciliation of the cashbook, including detailed financial analysis
- Preparation of the cashbook and general ledger for financial statements (three times per year)
- Assisting with year-end audit preparation in collaboration with the external accountant
- Maintaining accurate records of stock movement and reconciling stock accounts
- Managing financial data and updates via a user-friendly, industry-specific system
- Creating reports and tracking figures in Excel
- Engaging confidently with multi-national clients to resolve finance-related queries
- Meeting internal deadlines and maintaining accuracy under pressure
Requirements
Minimum 3-5 years' accounting experience (essential)
- Experience in the agri or commodities sector is highly advantageous
- Previous exposure to SAFEX trading systems or agricultural finance is a strong plus
- Degree in Accounting
- Meticulous attention to detail and high level of numerical accuracy
- Excellent interpersonal skills - ability to work harmoniously in a small team
- Professional communication style, especially when dealing with corporate clients
- Strong Excel skills and general computer literacy
- Fluent in Afrikaans and English (both written and spoken)
