About the position

A senior role focusing on Technology and Data Analytics Improvement projects for a major mining house.

The role will suit a full stack developer with backend (SQL), front-end (Python etc.), app development, databases and reporting (PowerBI, Tableau).
Initially the role will focus on data and reporting as that is where the business need is now, but over time it will also involve more analytics and machine learning projects.

This role will require you to be on-site in the Northern Cape every 2nd week - the company covers flights and accommodation when you are there. The weeks in between will be working from home with some days at corporate head office in Gauteng.

As Data Analyst Specialist you will support with the implementation of the business platform (align and co-ordinate Data Analytics suite of products deployed) which includes:
- Collaborating with data specialists, functional business experts, project managers and product experts to ensure smooth implementation of Data Analytics Projects
Designing and maintaining data systems across all disciplnes in the business - mining operational, finance, Safetry, production, HR [URL Removed]
- Mining data from primary and secondary sources and presenting it in a format that can be utilized in the company to support decison making
- Drive good data management practice, including management of data cataloguing-, data quality- and data governance tools
- Align data forums (steward consultation to governance committees) to Business representative for Data Policy Compliance audits
- Ensure digital literacy improves in the organization. Creating appropriate documentation that allows stakeholders to understand the steps of the data analysis process and duplicate or replicate the analysis if necessary
- Conduct and oversee data science experiments in co-operation with business analysts. Preparing reports for leadership that effectively communicate trends, patterns, and predictions using relevant data
- Assist with report automation and reporting requirements from business

You would need:

  • To be a South African citizen, EE and white females can be considered but no white male candidates
  • Relevant degree (not negotiable) - BSc Information Systems or equivalent

  • 5-7 years experience in technology, data analytics or analysis & improvement

  • 5 years experience in data modelling and reporting packages (PowerBI & Tableau) SQL, R & Python

  • Data and Information visualization
  • 5 years experience Java, Phython and C+ or other OOP language experience (Object Oriented Languages)
  • 5 years Designing and Developing Data Warehousing
  • Experience in Data Analysis and Data Modelling
  • Excelllent problem solving and programming skills
  • Knowledge of spreadsheet tools such as MS Excel

Experience in miningwill be a plus but is not essential, but must have worked in big data environments
