About the position
ENVIRONMENT:
A distinguished South African company specializing in Industrial Internet of Things (IoT) technologies, dedicated to leveraging AI-driven solutions for optimizing digital productivity, workplace safety, and employee welfare, is actively seeking a Process Data Science Services Engineer stationed at their Head Office in Somerset West. The ideal candidate should possess hands-on operational expertise in Concentrator operations, adept at utilizing software tools for troubleshooting process issues, and committed to proposing interventions that generate tangible value for end-users. Requirements include a B. Eng Degree in Chemical Engineering or Metallurgy, a minimum of 4 years' experience working directly within concentrator plant operations as a Metallurgist, and proficiency in implementing Advanced Analytics, Modeling, and Process Control within the Minerals Processing sector, particularly focusing on concentrators.
DUTIES:
- Providing structured, frequent guidance to the Product Manager and the Process Analytic Development that increases the usability and value of the packaged analytics for internal and external users.
- An expert service and advice to end users, by harnessing appropriate software, to clearly formulate the problem to be solved, to convert data to prepared & contextualised data, to insights, to actions, to implemented actions and to quantified value.
- Contributing to the internal team with minerals processing domain knowledge and its associated operational context to turn the Company’s Level 3 analytics into a world-class offering. This will include training fellow process data scientists to map insights to actionable advisories in Minerals Processing.
REQUIREMENTS:
Minimum Requirements:
- B. Eng Degree in Chemical Engineering or Metallurgy.
Desired Requirements:
- 4+ years of on-site concentrator plant experience as a Metallurgist.
- Experience in applying Advanced Analytics, Modelling and Process Control in the Minerals Processing industry with a focus on concentrators.
- Proficient in using appropriate software platforms for exploratory data analysis.
- Technical proposal, report writing and client presentation experience.
- Intermediate in data analysis tools (e.g. Python).
ATTRIBUTES:
- Proficiency with data analysis.
- Comfortable to work with data science software tools.
- The ability to modify if not create Python scripts for Process Analytics
- Growth mindset with the ability to learn from the Company’s Process Data Science Team to apply increasingly powerful and sophisticated machine learning techniques.
