About the position
Drilling Program Planning:
- Develop drilling programs in collaboration with geologists and mine planners to achieve exploration or production objectives..
- Coordinate and supervise drilling activities to ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and operational standards.
Equipment Selection and Maintenance:
- Select appropriate drilling equipment, tools, and consumables for specific drilling applications.
- Oversee equipment , maintenance, and repair activities to ensure operational readiness and minimize downtime.
- Implement preventive maintenance programs and troubleshoot equipment issues to maximize reliability and performance.
Drilling Methodology and Techniques:
- Evaluate and recommend drilling methodologies, techniques, and technologies to optimize drilling efficiency and effectiveness.
- Provide technical guidance and training to drilling personnel on proper drilling practices, procedures, and safety protocols.
- Monitor drilling performance and implement improvements to enhance productivity and achieve target outcomes.
Geotechnical Assessment and Data Analysis:
- Conduct geotechnical assessments to characterize subsurface conditions and assess drilling risks.
- Analyze drilling data, including core samples, lithological logs, and geological surveys,
Safety and Environmental Compliance:
- Develop and enforce safety protocols and procedures for drilling operations to minimize risks and prevent accidents.
- Conduct safety audits, inspections, and incident investigations to identify hazards and ensure regulatory compliance.
- Implement environmental management practices to mitigate impacts of drilling activities on air, water, and land resources.
Quality Control and Assurance:
- Establish quality control measures to ensure accuracy and reliability of drilling data and samples.
- Monitor drilling performance against predefined quality standards and specifications.
- Conduct regular audits and assessments to verify adherence to quality assurance protocols and identify areas for improvement.
Stakeholder Management and Communication:
- Liaise with internal stakeholders, such as project managers, geologists, and mine operators, to coordinate drilling activities and support project objectives.
- Communicate with external stakeholders, to address concerns and maintain positive relationships.
- Provide timely progress updates, reports, and recommendations to stakeholders to facilitate informed decision-making.
Continuous Improvement and Innovation:
- Identify opportunities for process optimization, cost reduction, and performance enhancement within the drilling department.
- Lead or participate in initiatives to implement new technologies, methodologies, or best practices to improve drilling efficiency and effectiveness.
- Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous learning among drilling personnel to drive ongoing improvement and excellence.
