About the position
Mechanical Design Engineer
Introduction
We are seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer with strong technical and analytical skills, excellent attention to detail, and proficiency in SolidWorks. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience in mechanical design, project management, and problem-solving within the bulk materials handling or agricultural industry. The employee will assist in all design-related responsibilities and is expected to work independently while maintaining sound engineering judgment and minimizing risks.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Research and develop mechanical equipment and applications for the bulk materials handling and agricultural industries.
- Conduct feasibility studies and conceptual designs, including stress, heat transfer, and material strength analysis.
- Create accurate SolidWorks drawings, layouts, and detailing suitable for manufacturing.
- Ensure designs meet client requirements, are cost-effective, and easy to manufacture.
- Evaluate tenders, prepare costings, and make technical recommendations.
- Manage turnkey projects from concept to commissioning.
- Identify and resolve design and operational challenges; develop practical engineering solutions.
- Perform design verifications using engineering calculations and simulation software.
- Prepare technical documentation such as equipment data sheets, specifications, and scopes of work.
- Liaise with suppliers, contractors, and consultants to ensure timely, high-quality project delivery.
- Conduct site visits, supervision, and commissioning when required.
- Stay informed on industry developments and follow company procedures.
Qualifications & Experience
- Diploma or Degree in Mechanical Engineering
- BEng / BSc(Eng) (NQF 8) or BTech (NQF 7)
- Proficient in SolidWorks
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in the Bulk Materials Handling industry
