About the Position
SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITY To supervise, control and co-ordinate the engineering shift in order to produce product to the correct quality, to optimize productivity and yield, to utilize the equipment in a safe and effective manner. KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATOR Proactively lead and manage the Artisan functions of the engineering department. Ensure compliance to all statutory requirements and McCain policies and systems. Liaise with the Engineering Dept (Boiler, RMI, Processing, Packing, Refrigeration) concerning corrective actions in case of Engineering problems in all areas. Job card creation based on results and deviations following engineering inspections, schedules and production findings. To provide technical support and coaching for artisans and trainees based on condition inspection findings and normal findings. Monitor quality of work execution during and after maintenance and repair interventions. Conduct failure analysis investigations in order to focus on proactive root cause of failures that took longer than 30 minutes. Ensure all job cards and line clearance forms is signed off before leaving shift. All jobs that have been completed must be confirmed on SAP before leaving site. All metals detected or foreign objects found in product will be executed with the highest importance and the root cause will be filled in by the team leader and will not leave site until it is done. Oversee that efficiency standards are maintained and subsequently planned. Ensure all equipment is used in the correct manner to minimize the possibility of damage, wear and losses to company. Anticipate and identify engineering related problems. Provide assistance to correct problems that pose a threat to the quality of the product and machine. Ensure artisan utilization targets are reached for every person reporting to him. Play a pivotal role in communicating priorities to the Planner and Superintendent to improve and sustain uptime Plan and allocate resources. Participate in relevant continuous improvement activities through MCE (Kaizen, SQDC, PPS, RCA etc.) line on the production and quality side. Assist with preventative maintenance activities and strategies. Ensure all maintenance inspections sheets are completed before leaving shift. Ensure and check that equipment is maintained to meet and exceed Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM) Requirements and production specifications. Control the usage and wastage of lubricants. If possible fix broken parts before drawing a new part out of stock. If a parts get taken out of store first use the old refurbished part before drawing out the new part. Maintain a healthy relationship between workers and line management. When a person transgresses company policies and rules, disciplinary actions should be taken according to company's disciplinary procedure. Ensure that when persons are scheduled for training that he/she attends. Ensure that all equipment is used in a safe and correct manner. Anticipate and identify safety related problems and give assistance in taking corrective action with these problems Actively promote safety and be fully involved in all relevant sections of KES (Key Element of Safety). Report any hygiene problems to the Sanitation Team. Actively promote Food Safety and GMP during the execution of all engineering work and adhere to the requirements of the Food Safety program (AIB and HACCP) Assist with the supervision when the plant is maintained during shutdowns and normal operation. Complete Permits to work for your employees and contractors when; * Work is done before and after (7:00 to 16:30) for Maintenance, Breakdown and planned work. * Superintendent is not available. * For your own people that are on shift. Communicate with Engineering Department on any maintenance issue; provide job cards for SAP system. Communicate with Quality Department on any quality related problems. Communication with Engineering Manager, Superintendents, and artisans are essential for good performance. Ensure all schedules, inspections, maintenance inspections, job cards is recorded on a daily basis (05h00 -18h00 day shift and 18h00 6h00 - night shift) and all job cards is confirmed on SAP for the shift before leaving shift. From time to time you are required to work overtime when requested and will be notified within 24 hours before work needs to be done. REQUIREMENTS Grade 12 Valid Trade Test Certificate (Fitter, Fitter & Turner, Millwright, Electrician) 1 Year Food processing and production principals. Technical and engineering skills.
