About the Position

Applications are invited to apply for this excellent opportunity that exists for the Junior
Maintenance Technician vacancy. The successful incumbent will report to the GPU Supports Service Manager.
The purpose of this position is to perform maintenance, calibrate and repair laboratory equipment and instruments for the Microbiology and Chemistry Laboratory.

Duties and responsibilities but not limited to:

  • Check and report on the availability of all calibration resources and tools
  • Calibrate all laboratory equipment in accordance with SOP as per calibration schedule
  • Calculate and interpret calibration results
  • Record calibration results and all relevant information relating to calibration in record book
  • Store all calibration records in accordance with SOP's
  • Communicate calibration deviations to manager
  • Assist in compiling of Standard Operating Procedures for equipment used in calibration
  • Renew and replace calibration standards, reagents and tools within deadline and/or prior to expiry dates
  • Facilitate process and assist external service providers with calibration of laboratory equipment
  • Perform preventative maintenance on laboratory equipment in accordance with SOP as per preventative maintenance schedule
  • Assist in repairing faulty laboratory equipment/instruments as and when necessary
  • Report instrument/equipment failure during analysis to manager
  • Record maintenance repairs and all relevant information relating to maintenance repairs in maintenance logbook
  • Assist in keeping downtime of instruments and/or equipment to a minimum
  • Assist Validation department with qualification execution of laboratory equipment in accordance with validation protocols
  • Complete all records and reports timeously and accurately as described in the relevant SOP's, protocols and associated documentation

Requirements:

  • Matric/Grade 12/N3 or equivalent
  • Tertiary qualification/Studying towards a Tertiary Qualification in Chemistry or equivalent Technical field
  • Computer Literate
  • At least 1-year experience in analytical and/or instrument repair
  • At least 1-year experience in calibration and/or maintenance of laboratory equipment
