About the Position

Purpose of the role:
To upscale community based HIV testing through implementing Patient Index testing, including couple, family and household testing as well as supervised HIV self-test where necessary.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Senior certificate (Grade 12) or equivalent
  • 10 days Basic Counselling course
  • Basic HAST information course
  • 2 years' experience in HIV testing and counselling
  • Finger Prick Certificate (advantageous)
  • Valid driver's license (advantageous)
  • Sound experience working with communities and/or community based organizations (advantageous)

Key Performance Areas:

  • HIV pre-test, post-test and ongoing counselling
  • Conduct patient index testing, including couple, family and household testing
  • Supervise HIV self-test where necessary
  • Give health education on health related issues, tasks and presentations
  • Give support to both infected and affected clients
  • Introduce a risk reduction plan in the post-test counselling and the ongoing support
  • SRH and TB screening
  • Establish, Support and maintain Health promotion activities
  • Participate in organizing HIV/AIDS awareness events
  • Social mobilization during set events and campaigns
  • Recording of patients into daily register
  • Help with the tracing of all patients LTFU

Technical Skills & Competencies:

  • Basic computer skills
  • Good communication skills (both written and verbal)
  • Ability to communicate in the client/patient's own language
  • Passion working with community and ability to work independently
  • Pay attention to detail
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • team player, performance oriented and able to handle group dynamics
  • Ability to work under pressure and adhere to the set standards of the programme
