About the position
Postion Summary:
The key role of the twelve-month internship position is to provide support to the section and the department in the end-to-end development and implementation of funding instruments and concomitant activities, through assigned team leadership. These activities include pre- and post- granting processes, aligned to the NRF mandate.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist with the planning and implementation of departmental activities and projects
- Support the drafting of business documents, reports, and internal memorandums associated with funding instruments
- Contribute to the coordination of grant administration and review activities for funding instruments
- Assist in coordinating stakeholder communication between the NRF and Institutions on grants administration matters
- Attend official occasions, meetings, seminars, and forums of the NRF/RIISA/Department as required
- Support the monitoring and evaluation of departmental funded projects and initiatives by collecting and compiling data
- Assist with compiling and analysing performance data and reports on Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
- Provide inputs to budget processes, including basic data collation for planning and expenditure monitoring
- Assist with reconciling and managing basic cost centre reports and financial data related to funding instruments
- Provide support for internal and external audit queries by helping to gather required documentation
- Undertake basic quality assurance tasks related to grant data on NRF systems
- Perform general administrative and logistical duties for the section and assigned projects
Minimum Qualification:
- Bachelors Degree / Advanced Diploma / NQF 7
Minimum Experience:
- A Bachelor's degree (NQF 7), preferably in a field related to research, administration, social sciences, or science management
- No prior work experience is mandatory, but exposure to an administrative, academic, or research environment will be an advantage
Experience:
- Good quantitative and qualitative data analysis skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- A positive attitude, good interpersonal skills, and ability to be proactive
Knowledge:
- An interest in research administration and the South African Higher Education System
- Demonstrated willingness to learn and work effectively in a team
- Computer literacy skills, including proficiency in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
