About the position

A leading financial institution in the agricultural sector is seeking a highly skilled Agricultural Specialist. The successful candidate will provide professional agricultural, economic, and technical expertise to support the evaluation of farm and agribusiness financing, playing a critical role in minimizing financial risk and ensuring sustainable agricultural operations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct on-farm agronomical and financial assessments for high-risk and delinquent clients, providing actionable recommendations to improve farm performance and mitigate risk.
  • Evaluate the viability of financing clients, including reviewing infrastructure, management practices, topography, development potential, and collateral.
  • Inspect farm assets, crops, and movable assets to determine value and identify potential shortfalls.
  • Maintain and contribute to the provincial agricultural knowledge database, sharing insights with the wider team.
  • Build and sustain strong relationships with farmers, cooperatives, and key stakeholders to support sustainable agricultural growth.
  • Monitor loan portfolios, conduct site inspections, and provide ongoing technical advisory support to ensure client compliance and performance.
  • Prepare clear reports and recommendations for management on risks, remedial actions, and potential interventions.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Agriculture or Agricultural Economics (or equivalent).
  • 5+ years' experience in Agricultural Extension Services, agricultural businesses, cooperatives, or similar organisations.
  • Knowledge of financial analysis, property valuation, lending principles, and agricultural risk management.
