Professional Civil Engineer Roads at SMEC

About the position

We are currently seeking a talented Professional Engineer or Professional Technologist to join the Roads and Highways Function group in South Africa based in the SMEC Cape Town Office. The purpose of this position is to develop, operate, and grow the function group business within SMEC South Africa.

Key Responsibilities:

• Enhance geometric design skills in the team.
• communicate design intent using CAD tools and produce accurate drawings.
• Draft technical reports with a focus on excellence, provide solutions and take ownership of individual work for timely completion.
• Delegate tasks, supervise a team, estimate resources, and set/manage project expectations.
• Ensure quality assurance and meet project deadlines and budgets.
• Proficiently use software tools, understand design principles and present technical work effectively.
• Address key project issues, and submit EOIs, RFQs, tenders, and proposals.
• Inspect and verify constructions for compliance, manage multiple projects, and cultivate key business relationships for project success.

Recommended Qualifications, Skills, and Experience

• Bachelor of Engineering or B.Tech degree / Advanced Diploma from an accredited University/University of Technology.
• Professional registration with ECSA is essential.
• Minimum 1 year of post-professional registration experience.
• Ability to effectively write technical reports.
• Geometric design ability.
• Professional delivery and appearance to ensure SMEC image is maintained.
• Courteous and business-orientated manners when communicating with stakeholders to foster and promote good working relations.
• Co-operative and flexible work style to work in a team environment.
• Project financial knowledge, budgeting, forecasting, and invoicing.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Experience with Bentley MicroStation, Open Roads Design Software as well as Civil3D.
• Interest and/or experience with BIM systems would be advantageous.
