KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: * Patient care and counselling * Performs rostered weekend duties * Provide safe, clean and secure environment for patients, staff and visitors * Utilises supplies and equipment in an economical manner * Cooperates and collaborates with other hospital departments to provide quality patient care * Liaises with Unit Manager on matters relating to patient care * Keeps accurate records at all times * Required to serve on relevant committees within the department * Supervise and evaluate quality of patient care through patient rounds * Assists with the coaching of junior staff within the Unit INHERENT JOB REQUIREMENTS * Must be a Registered Nurse, currently registered with the South African Nursing Council * Experience in the relevant field of nursing and Diploma in Critical Care Nursing advantageous * The ability to communicate well at all levels * The ability to work well under pressure and to maintain effectiveness during changing conditions * The ability to develop using collaborative relationships to help accomplish work goals * The ability to actively participate as a member of a team to achieve goals * The ability to plan and organize work for self and others to ensure efficient completion * The ability to produce work of a high standard by accurately checking processes and tasks * The ability to maintain stable performance under pressure by handling stress in an acceptable way to personnel and the organization * The ability to set high standards of performance for self and others, and assuming the overall responsibility and accountability for the successful completion of assignments or tasks * Must have an understanding of monitors, ventilators and ICU equipment NON-MANAGERIAL COMPETENCIES • Managing work: Managing ones time and resources to ensure that work is completed efficiently. • Building Customer Loyalty: Effectively meeting customer needs, building productive customer relationships, taking responsibility for customer satisfaction and loyalty. • Adaptability: Maintaining effectiveness when experiencing major changes in work tasks or the work environment. • Quality Orientation: Originating action to improve existing work processes and conditions for improved quality of outputs. • Work Standards: Setting high standards of performance for self and others, self imposing standards of excellence. * Be prepared to work flexible hours * Positive and motivated to work in ICU
