Duties and supervision

The Regional Bureau in South Africa provides oversight and support for about 50 projects assisting 12 million beneficiaries and worth USD 600 million. Under the overall supervision of the Sr. Regional Programme Advisor the incumbent will be responsible for the following:

  • Facilitate, monitor and help oversee the processing of  project documents creation and project revisions through the entire process from inception to approval, maintain and update status of programme documents for both Executive Board submissions and internal delegated approval;
  • Oversee follow-up actions so that all documentation is in line with the Programme Review Committee (PRC) recommendations and ensure data in WFP corporate systems is accurate;
  • Design and maintain databases on WFP projects and WFP Project data;
  • Give assistance to country offices  in their design and  formulation of Country Programmes, Country Strategies, Emergency Operations (EMOPs), Protracted Relief Operations (PRROs), Development Projects, and Special Operations to help ensure compliance with WFP’s policies, criteria and procedures;
  • Help in the preparation and dissemination of other timely analytical and critical reports; Oversee accuracy of data in operational reports prepared by Regional Bureau and review country office reports and briefs, providing feedback where necessary;
  • Assist in the monitoring analysis on project performance and financial surplus/deficit and recommend appropriate actions to be undertaken by RB/CO management.
  • Travel to countries in the region in relation to the above task and to provide training and technical guidance;
  • Supervise other programme staff;
  • Any other duties as required



Preferably Master Degree in one or more of the following disciplines: Economics, business administration, public administration, social sciences, development studies or a field relevant to international development assistance. Minimum 1st level university degree with most relevant additional training.


At least three years of most relevant professional experience.


Good knowledge of MS Office including Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Experience with ERP and databases an advantage.


Fluent spoken and written English. Working knowledge of Portuguese and/or French an added advantage.
