The National Research Foundation (NRF) supports and promotes research and human capital development through funding, the provision of National Research Facilities and science outreach platforms and programmes to the broader community in all fields of science and technology, including natural sciences, engineering, social sciences and humanities. 

The primary task of the Director (PMC) is to plan,  direct, manage and coordinate all Research and Innovation Support and Advancement (RISA) funding projects and programmes in line with the matrix organisational structure within RISA. The incumbent will be an experienced professional responsible for providing proven specialist project management expertise and managing a diverse team and resources.

The National Research Foundation invites applications from suitably qualified individuals to occupy this critical position within RISA (Pretoria Office).

Key responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership in the conceptualisation, development and implementation strategies for appropriate project management and project delivery.
  • Coordinate all RISA funding projects and programmes in line with the RISA matrix model and objectives.
  • Identify trends and provide guidance/advice on appropriate actions to be taken in implementation and delivery.
  • Oversee a number of projects and ensure that projects are managed and delivered on time and on budget.
  • Lead, manage and develop project teams in close collaboration with the RISA Executive Directors to ensure smooth business operations and delivery as well as the provision of accurate and timely information.
  • Provide administrative, strategic planning and operational support and advice to senior management on aspects related to RISA’s core business.
  • Contribute to the strategic vision, planning and business processes of the NRF.

Key Requirements:

  • A relevant Post-Graduate degree and/or equivalent qualification in the area of Project Management.
  • Minimum of five (5) years relevant management experience.
  • A thorough understanding of NRF programmes and instruments.
  • Extensive strategic management and leadership experience.
  • Evidence of strong project management, financial management, and people management skills.
  • Good understanding of, and commitment to, the improvement of the NSI.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to influence and build relationships.
  • Experience in developing innovative solutions and contribute to strategic planning.
