About the position

The position is responsible to assist the General Manager: Group Finance and is a Finance Business Partner, with a particular focus on the application of sound financial decision making and reporting, with the aim of accounting for all business activities, safeguarding all assets and improving return on investment and profitability in the business. This role performs monthly and year-end Group consolidation. Prepares Group financial statements in accordance with IFRS. Responsible for maintaining and consolidating the financial reports/results within the Group

  • 5 years' work experience at a senior level plus 5+ years' of relevant experience with General Ledger, consolidation and intercompany transactions, Group reporting and financial statements.
  • Excellent working knowledge of Sage Evolution and Microsoft Excel and related financial reporting packages
  • Strong working knowledge of IFRS required
  • Strong hands-on General ledger transactions and consolidation experience large enterprise accounting system.
  • Requires excellent financial reporting skills at a high level of expertise.
  • Previous experience in an international corporate environment is an added advantage Strong working knowledge of multi-currency transactions and related impacts on the financial statements.
  • Ability to multitask and work effectively both independently and in teams, ensuring timely completion of assignments and meeting established standards
  • CA (SA), preferably articles in Big 4.

  • Group budgets and forecasts

  • Develop an effective implementation schedule and monitor production of all financial plans
    Prepare financial plans, budgets and forecasts as well as EXCO/Board presentations
    Communicate the value proposition of financial planning
    Manage the rollout of any proposed budgeting and forecasting tool from a super-user perspective
    Maintain knowledge on all financial plans with clear documentation in place
    Assist in preparing long term plans, budgets and forecasts (5-7 year plans)
    Completing quantitative analyses of budgets and various financial plans
    Evaluates plans by identifying outcomes and potential returns, with value added recommendations to stakeholders
    Recommends financial action plans by assessing options in relation to organisational goals
    Development, and maintenance of all reporting templates to report financial and operational information to Exco.
    Create and coordinate the preparation and release of financial and management reports
    Prepares financial reports by collecting, formatting, analysing, and explaining information in a meaningful and value adding manner
    Contributes to the overall team effort by accomplishing related results as needed
    Ensure adherence to all standards and organise yearly financial planning meetings
    Manage the overall Group Budget and Forecast process which includes presentations of the financial plans to the relevant stakeholders

  • Group Financial Reporting

  • Assist with the monthly financial management function, which includes value adding monthly reporting on results as well as maintaining the Group trial balance, both Balance Sheet accounts and all Expense accounts.
    Build relationships with key stakeholders and Group finance staff to ensure smooth operations for the Group Finance department.
    Provide timely and accurate financial information to inform and influence operational decisions.
    Assist in managing the financial inputs and reviews of the Group integrated annual report
    Assist in reviewing all finance related information on JSE results presentations and SENS announcements prior to this being released (when we reach listing phase)
    Create and coordinate the preparation and release of financial and management reports
    Assist with research, review, and analysis of the effectiveness and efficiency of existing financial reporting procedures and systems, with a view to develop strategies for enhancing or leveraging these processes and systems.
    Assist with the improvement of overall financial reporting processes and systems by driving efficiency, innovation and automation in Group Finance
    Work directly with decision makers and end users to understand, define, and document current and possible future reporting goals, needs, and requirements.
    Assist with the development, and maintenance of all reporting templates to report financial and operational information to Exco.
    Retrieve and utilize information from the accounting system and other data sources and, when necessary, recommend and manage the development and implementation of improved processes.
    Assist with the design, development, publishing, and maintenance of management dashboards.
    Assist with research and recommend key performance indicators in order to provide better intelligence in financial reporting.
    Identify areas of automation as well as process improvement ideas and implement.
    Assist in developing and maintaining processes related to all standard reporting in the form of consistent policies and guidelines for financial reporting
    Ensuring compliance with all regulatory requirements, including funding covenants.
    Assist in the preparation of audit pack and interim reporting templates, incorporating all changes to IFRS & reporting requirements.
    Assist in the preparation of the Group annual financial statements in adherence with IFRS and related legislations.
    Represent the Group Reporting function in specific Group initiatives and projects impacting the Group Financial Reporting process
  • Group Consolidation
  • Meet global reporting requirements - Compilation and corresponding review of financial data
    Coordinates with foreign entities' accountants for timely financial reporting.

Accuracy in preparation of monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements/financial reports and management reports in a timely manner
Prepare and process all consolidation journals in accordance with the appropriate standards, ensuring that all journals have valid supporting documentation
Support and develop management reports and analysis related to Group figures in close collaboration with all relevant stakeholders
Group closing and consolidation activities including; month-, quarter-, interim reporting and year-end reporting.
Take ownership of the reporting systems in the Group
Arrange appropriate training and education on all reporting systems across the Group
Execute the consolidation of accounts and transactions
Develop and document group's reporting guidelines/manuals including standard operating procedures for Group reporting (interim, year-end and monthly reporting)

Audit, training, compliance, process optimisation and technical
Maintains technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing publications and maintaining CPD.
Participate in appropriate training and education on IFRS across the group as an initiative from the Group Finance team to drive learning and development
Prepare required documentation for audits internally and externally. Ensure and maintain an up-to-date status. Interface with external auditors for periodic financial reviews, controls testing and other inquiries
Implement controls within the reporting environment to enhance Group reporting
Assist in managing the external audit during the year-end audit as well interim reporting periods, where required. This includes all aspects relating to the audit including planning and execution
Support the implementation of new reporting systems and processes
Reduce reporting days for both monthly reporting, and year end reporting
Assistance on various ad hoc projects within Group Finance
Work with regional finance teams to align accounting policies and procedures for key areas globally to ensure a standard procedure is followed.
