About the position

As the Group HR Manager you will be responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining HR & IR policies and procedures, managing the recruitment and retention of employees, ensuring compliance with employment and payroll laws, and promoting a positive and productive work environment. Additionally, the role will involve managing the employee benefits and payroll programs, overseeing training and development initiatives, and leading the HR team to achieve its goals and support the overall strategy and mission of the organization.

Hours of Work:

  • Monday to Friday: 8am to 5pm with 1 hour lunch
  • After hours, weekends and public holidays are also required according to company requirements

By focusing on these key areas, HR will effectively manage the HR function, ensure compliance with employment and payroll laws, and contribute to the success of the organization.

  • Recruitment and retention: Developing and implementing effective recruitment and retention programs that attract and retain top talent in the organization.
  • Employee engagement: Developing and implementing initiatives to promote employee engagement, productivity, and job satisfaction.
  • Performance management: Managing the performance evaluation process and providing feedback to employees and managers to improve performance.
  • Compliance: Ensuring compliance with all statutory laws and regulations, as well as internal policies and procedures.
  • Training and development: Developing and delivering training and development programs to enhance employee skills and knowledge.
  • HR administration: Managing the HR administration process, including maintaining employee records, managing HR databases, and generating HR reports.
  • Employee relations: Maintaining positive employee relations and resolving conflicts between employees and management.
  • Diversity and inclusion: Developing and implementing diversity and inclusion programs to promote a diverse and inclusive workplace.

  • HR team management: Leading and managing the HR team, including providing guidance and support, setting goals and objectives, and evaluating team performance.

Responsibilities:
These functions and responsibilities are essential for an HR Manager in a manufacturing company to ensure that the HR department is effectively supporting the company's overall strategy and goals, while also ensuring compliance with employment laws and regulations, and promoting a positive and productive work environment

  • Develop, implement, and maintain HR policies and procedures that are in line with the company's overall strategy and goals.
  • Provide guidance and support to managers and employees on HR issues, including performance management, disciplinary actions, and employee relations.
  • Manage the recruitment and hiring process, including creating job descriptions, conducting interviews, and making job offers.
  • Develop and implement employee retention programs and initiatives.
  • Manage the employee benefits program
  • Oversee the onboarding process for new employees.
  • Maintain and update the employee handbook, policies and procedures
  • Ensure compliance with all statutory laws and regulations.
  • Lead training and development programs for employees.
  • Oversee the HR team and ensure that HR services are delivered in a timely and effective manner.
  • Prepare reports and analyze HR metrics to identify trends and areas for improvement.
  • Partner with management to develop and execute company-wide HR initiatives.
  • Develop and implement employee engagement programs to increase employee morale and productivity.
  • Manage the performance evaluation process, including setting goals and objectives, conducting performance evaluations, and providing feedback to employees and managers.
  • Conduct investigations and resolve employee complaints and grievances, manage workplace industrial relations and discipline
  • Develop and implement workplace safety programs to ensure a safe work environment for employees.
  • Manage employee relations, including resolving conflicts and promoting positive relationships between management and employees.
  • Develop and implement diversity and inclusion programs to promote a diverse and inclusive workplace.
  • Stay up-to-date with changes in HR laws and regulations and ensure compliance.
  • Foster a positive and productive work environment by promoting teamwork, open communication, and mutual respect.

HR/Finance Functions:

  • Benefits administration: Managing the employee benefits program
  • Payroll administration: Managing the payroll process, including calculating and processing employee payroll, maintaining payroll records, and ensuring compliance with payroll laws and regulations.
  • Capturing leave forms on Eco time and VIP
  • Processing deduction form
  • Processing salaries from VIP
  • Change of banking details for employee's
  • Eco time hours report
  • Loading new employees on Eco time and VIP
  • Processing terminations on Eco time and VIP
  • Review the Payroll by verifying and signing off hours report,
  • Review the processing of deductions/loans
  • Review changes of banking details
  • Review processing short payments
  • Review leave pay-out calculations
  • Review Payroll reports before submitting to the finance department for their review and payment emphasising review to change of banking details of employees
  • Review the exporting payroll files for finance to ensure completeness, accuracy and validity of the report,
  • Review UIF Submission
  • Review the EMP201 report for accuracy and completeness
  • Review and reconcile the GINI invoice to Gini headcount checks, attendance registers, hours worked, leave days, minimum wage checks, duplication of head counts to shifts, confirmation of approved head counts to actual head counts per shift, by reperforming the calculation and applying the method of calculation and percentage saving to confirm the validity, accuracy and completeness of the GINI invoice.
  • Review the loading and terminating Gini staff( +/- 20 to 30 changes monthly)
  • Review the loading new employee's on Uniclox and VIP
  • Review the processing of terminations for accuracy and completeness
  • Review capturing of leave for accuracy and completeness
  • Head up the annual COIDA submission

Education and Experience

  • Proven working experience
  • People oriented and results driven
  • Demonstrable experience with Human Resources
  • Knowledge of Payroll & HR systems and databases
  • Excellent active listening, negotiation and presentation skills
  • Competence to build and effectively manage interpersonal relationships at all levels of the company
  • Good knowledge of labour law, HR, COIDA, BCEA.
  • Degree or similar qualification in HR or at least 5+ years work experience in HR including payroll

  • Issuing new staff with onboarding documents
  • Review Gini headcount checks, attendance registers, hours worked, leave days, minimum wage checks, duplication of head counts to shifts, confirmation of approved head counts to actual head counts per shift.
  • Head up the BBBEE verification process
  • Head up the annual employment equity plan submission
