About the position
- A good understanding of international best practice on tailings management (e.g. Canadian Dam Association technical bulletins, Global Industry Standard on Tailings Management), local regulatory requirements pertaining to tailings management and environmental management (specifically waste regulations), and assurance (auditing);
- Review, design, construction, and remediation of tailings structures throughout project lifecycle including pre-feasibility, feasibility, detailed design, construction, and operational stages;
- Support and develop Life of Asset (LOA) build strategies, budgets and schedules based on latest tailings tonnages and closure concepts;
- Monitor and support compliance of TSFs with risk management policies, methodologies, and processes;
- Define technical and management standards within Ferroalloys for tailings and inspect critical TSF assets and management systems within Glencore's risk management framework;
- Ensure implementation of actions/recommendations from Annual Dam Safety Audits, the Independent Tailings Review Board, and independent Dam Safety Review, as well as developing corrective actions and tracking those based on the TSF HSEC Verification findings and observations;
- Review Dam Break Analysis (DBA) models, interpret Piezocone Penetration Test (CPTu) data and calculate Factor of Safety (FoS); and
- Review and develop Operational Management Systems, Emergency Preparedness and Response Plan and Trigger Action Response Plan.
Desired Experience Qualification
&
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, with specialisation in Geotechnical Engineering;
- PrEng registration ECSA and a member of SAICE; will be advantageous;
- 3 years' experience in Tailings Management consisting of the planning, design, operation, and closure of such facilities;
- Good communication and interpersonal skills;
- Computer literate;
- Good knowledge of the HSEC system; and
- Problem solving skills.
