About the position

The incumbent will be responsible for the managing of all the Operations / Factory required to fulfil annual Production requirements, and final delivery to the finished goods warehouse. This is to be affected within approved budgets, scrap levels and output/efficiency targets, while ensuring the worker force safety is maintained and that the factory remains legally compliant. The incumbent must be able to lead the production team in a meaningful and co-ordinated manner that will ensure a stable and team orientated work ethic exists. Strong labour relationships are essential. Role reports to the General Manager.

Requirements:

  • Matric/Grade 12
  • National Diploma in Production, Operations or Sales Management
  • Degree or Post Graduate Degree would be an advantage
  • Minimum 5 years' experience of local roof industry
  • Minimum 10-15 years' experience in operations and manufacturing
  • Minimum 6-10 years' experience in a management position
  • A Mechanical/Electrical background in Roll milling operations processes and equipment is advantageous
  • Minimum 5 years' experience using Microsoft packages
  • Strong labour relationships are essential
  • Knowledge of machine set up and roll settings is advantageous, as well as the respective methods of fault finding and resolution
  • Sound understanding of Production management
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Customer Focus is essential
  • Responsible for the successful management of the production capabilities which will be in alignment with the needs of the Branch's customers to meet the overall objectives & strategies of the company
  • Responsible for the sustainability of the existing manufacturing strategy
  • Support the strengthening of customer relationships, by understanding their needs, and driving the company process whilst maximising yield and profitability through the operations
  • Effectively communicate the company vision and values internally within the manufacturing operation
  • Deliver the Exceptional

Financial management:

  • Manage and reduce costs of the sub-function

Performance management:

  • Ensure sub-functional strategic plan is implemented through disciplined execution processes, track implementation and provide feedback to managers and co-oordinate functional/cross-functional activities to ensure functional alignment
  • Maintain high performance standards
  • Track and drive functional targets/goals and hold staff accountable for achieving results
  • Continuous improvement and functional change: lead functional improvement and create a culture of continuous improvement and change agility in function
  • Engagement/communication: Communicate and engage all employees across all disciplines
  • Engage with managers, operations and cross-functionally with peers
  • Governance: Ensure function adheres to governance, policies, and standards, statutory and legal compliance. Entrench a culture of discipline
  • Performance management: Clarify roles/responsibilities and expectations. Define individual performance standards, monitor, and measure performance and reward and recognize high performance. Apply consistent performance and consequence management and take prompt action against non-performance
  • Talent development: Actively manage talent through regular assessment of employees' strengths, development needs and development progress. Provide ongoing mentoring, coaching and development feedback to employees. Manage the functional talent pipeline and succession planning process. Promote a culture of continuous learning. Encourage and empower team to make decisions
  • Culture/functional climate: Embody, translate, and entrench culture and values in function and address behaviours that undermine values. Foster effective teamwork and unity. Create an environment in which people are inspired to perform and a high-performance culture
  • Communication/engagement: Proactively address conflicts and initiate difficult conversations
