A well-established company is recruiting for a
CLINICAL EPIDEMIOLOGIST
PRETORIA
PURPOSE OF THE JOB
The role provides input into their healthcare system design, assessment and evaluation with a focus on embedding a systematic and at scale health promotion and prevention approach. It supports the development of models of care and addressing the socio-economic determinants of health.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES, AMONGST OTHERS INCLUDE:
Study design
- Develops and implements methods and systems for acquiring, compiling, synthesising, extracting and reporting information;
- Designs studies to develop evidence-based healthcare programmes and interventions, assess their impact on health outcomes, and helps practitioners understand how well an initiative is performing and whether that model can be replicated;
- Develops project plans, timelines, or technical objectives for health research studies; and
- Develops analysis plans, selects analysis strategies for optimal reliability of measurements, interpretation and presentation of results.
Data analysis and interpretation
- Collects data and conducts analysis and studies on population health trends, including the nature and extent of prevailing conditions using qualitative and quantitative methods;
- Gathers, compiles, interprets and analyses health-related information of the population that include healthy and unhealthy individuals from multiple sources;
- Establishes patterns and causes of diseases by using various models to follow the aetiology, epidemiology and extent of conditions;
- Analyses data and reports findings, which will inform treatment interventions and strategies in order to improve health outcomes and prevent future health conditions
- Provides critical analysis and thinking, advice and recommendations on issues based on accepted scientific understanding of healthcare conditions in a global context;
- Designs, conducts and reports on evaluations of programmes and interventions
- Supports monitoring of interventions to assess their effectiveness towards improving health outcomes; and
- Collaborates with various stakeholders - industry players, government agencies and other global health partners to assist in the development of positions and recommendations on key policy issues.
Disseminate findings
- Prepares articles for publication or presentation at professional conferences;
- Attends meetings or conferences to present findings and to keep abreast of methodological or conceptual developments in clinical epidemiology, public health, life sciences, clinical services and social sciences; and
- Compiles and disseminates research outputs for consumption by various stakeholders
Stakeholder Management
- Lobbies organisational support and buy-in for relevant Research and Data Analytics initiatives;
- Ensures the effective integration between Research and Data Analytics and the organisation; and
- Acts as the liaison for the execution of directives, mandates and initiatives set by persons in authority.
Compliance and Governance
- Implements Research and Data Analytics programmes to support the achievement of Polmed strategy;
- Executes in adherence to all relevant regulatory and business practices;
- Active risk management by applying and promoting a culture of ongoing detection and resolution of Statutory, Regulatory Compliance breaches;
- Contributes to a clean audit, risk and compliance across Polmed;
- Execute all Internal Audit exceptions and ensure the implementation of preventative measures in the unit; and
- Contributes to a high-performance corporate culture that promotes ethical practices and encourages individual integrity, accountability, and social responsibility.
QUALIFICATION & EXPERIENCE
- NQF Level 8 Postgraduate qualification in Public Health
- 4 years' relevant experience in clinical epidemiology in medical schemes or comparable environment
