About the position
Our client in the mining industry is recruiting for a Chief Mining Engineer with 10 years of extensive experience in mining. Duties will include but not be limited to the following:
Operational Management
- Provide input to strategic plans of the section by compiling comprehensive operational plans, converting the Department into an enabler of the business strategy of the organization.
- Responsible for the annual Long-Term Plan (LTP) update, delivering an annual Medium-Term Plan (MTP) Budget plan which is in line with the LTP and operational objectives, to optimize the push back strategy, equipment application, waste dump strategy and infrastructure constraints.
Compliance, Risk, and Safety
- Conduct regular pit visits to ensure safe mine operations that adhere to all mine and legal regulations.
- Advise corrective actions and ensure interventions are implemented, providing solutions to performance gaps on any deviations to procedures.
Continuous Improvement and Optimization
- Optimize and continuously improve the overall planning cycle and ensure each component of the planning cycle is executed in such a way that interfaces are managed.
- Improve company profitability by using enhanced mine planning and execution techniques, ensuring mine plans meet and exceed plants quantities and qualities requirement.
Data Analytics and Reporting
- Update the Resource Reserve statement to provide a current illustration of the minerals of interest within the orebody.
Financial Management
- Comply with all financial, Supply Chain Management (SCM) and other regulations and policies of the company by facilitating the right actions, to reduce financial risk in the Department.
People Management
- Create and maintain a conducive work environment by appropriately applying Human Resources policies and procedures to ensure optimum performance is realized for the benefit of the Department and, by extension, the organization.
- Lead the team according to the client's leadership principles and values throughout the entire employee life cycle to ensure high performance culture.
Stakeholder Relations
- Build and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders to ensure information, advice or opinions on relevant matters is made available and/or communicated with all relevant stakeholders.
Requirements
- Must have an Engineering Degree (NQF7) in Mining.
- Mine Manager's Certificate of Competency
- A minimum of 10 years' experience as a Long and Medium Term Mine Planning Engineer in open pit, technical planning environment.
- Competency in Deswik, Talpac and XPac packages is advantageous.
- CAD, GIS, and Survey related packages is advantageous.
