A well-established company is recruiting for a
BIOSTATICIAN
PRETORIA
PURPOSE OF THE JOB
This role provides statistical, methodological and data analysis support to medical and health research to test hypotheses, perform statistical analyses and make accurate inferences to enable healthcare professionals to take data-driven decisions and deliver effective evidence-based healthcare interventions. It participates in the design, development, and reporting of research studies and collects, analyses and interprets health science data from multiple data sources playing a role in the healthcare provision value chain.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES, AMONGST OTHERS INCLUDE:
Study design
- Designs studies and sampling techniques to develop evidence-based healthcare programmes and interventions, assess their impact on health outcomes, and helps practitioners understand how well an initiative is performing and whether that model can be replicated;
- Designs targeted statistical research studies and advises on experimental design and statistical research approaches, requirements, and scientific standards to conduct research aimed at improving health outcomes;
Data analysis and interpretation
- Plans and documents data file structures, develops programs, manages and maintains complex statistical databases, and performs or supervises data entry;
- Uses a variety of advanced statistical software, methods, and techniques to gather, analyse, and interpret data to derive useful information for research data; advises and assists in the development of inferences and conclusions, as appropriate;
- Maintains knowledge of current and emerging trends in statistical analysis methodologies;
- Conducts data analysis using statistical programs, tools and techniques such as R, STATA, SPSS, SAS and Excel;
- Conducts systematic reviews and meta-analysis of data to inform development of evidence-based healthcare;
- Conducts quantitative review of healthcare services to improve their delivery of successful, data-driven interventions;
- Disseminate findings
Prepares articles for publication or presentation at professional conferences;
- Attends meetings or conferences to present findings and to keep abreast of methodological or conceptual developments in biostatistics, public health, life sciences, clinical services and social sciences; and
- Compiles and disseminates research outputs for consumption by various stakeholders
Stakeholder Management
- Lobbies organisational support and buy-in for relevant Research and Data Analytics initiatives;
- Ensures the effective integration between Research and Data Analytics and the organisation; and
- Acts as the liaison for the execution of directives, mandates and initiatives set by persons in authority.
Compliance and Governance
- Implements Research and Data Analytics programmes to support the achievement of Polmed strategy;
- Executes in adherence to all relevant regulatory and business practices;
- Active risk management by applying and promoting a culture of ongoing detection and resolution of Statutory, Regulatory Compliance breaches;
- Contributes to a clean audit, risk and compliance across Polmed;
- Execute all Internal Audit exceptions and ensure the implementation of preventative measures in the unit; and
- Contributes to a high-performance corporate culture that promotes ethical practices and encourages individual integrity, accountability, and social responsibility.
QUALIFICATION & EXPERIENCE
- NQF Level 8 Postgraduate qualification in Statistics or Biostatics
- 4 years' relevant experience in statistics/biostatistics in medical schemes or comparable environment
