About the position

Postion Summary:
iThemba LABS is seeking an experienced electronics engineer for its Accelerator Operations and Technical Support department. The Engineer will lead and manage the RF System division, which is responsible for the generation of radio-frequency accelerating voltages for accelerators and beam transport systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage the development, construction and implementation of new RF systems required by the acceleratorDevelop and maintain existing RF systems to ensure that the operational requirements of accelerator systems are met
  • Participate in the preparation of bid specifications and tender documentation, as well as partaking in tender processes
  • Responsible for the supervision of a group of engineers and technicians for operations and maintenance of the RF systems
  • Identify risks and ensure operational impacts are minimizedLead, manage and oversee projects schedules and budgetsFinancial Management: Preparing budget forecast for projects

Minimum Qualification:
  • Bachelors Degree / Advanced Diploma / NQF 7

Minimum Experience:
  • 10-10 years
  • B
  • Eng / B
  • Sc in Electronics Engineering or equivalentM
  • Eng would be advantageous

Experience:
  • 10 years’ experience in RF EngineeringAt least 5 years’ experience in the RF division of an accelerator facility would be preferable
  • 3 years’ experience in a managerial or leadership role in a technical environment
  • Candidates with demonstrated potential for a leadership role will also be considered
  • Experience with either high power RF amplifiers or high power RF resonatorsExperience in compiling tenders and managing subcontractorsExperience in working in a multi-disciplinary project environment

Knowledge:
  • Knowledge of general electronics, computer interfacing/ control and experienced in the high frequency, high power techniques encountered in cyclotron RF systemsInsight into and experience with resonant circuits and power-amplifier principles
  • Knowledge of project portfolio management, project controlsExcellent written and communication skillsProficient in MS Office applications
