Manager: Control Electronics and Software Engineering at NRF National Research Foundation

About the position

Postion Summary:
iThemba LABS is seeking an experienced Electronics Engineer for its Accelerator Operations and Technical Support department. The Engineer will lead and manage the Control Electronics and Software division, in order to facilitate and execute the completion of certain projects on behalf of the company as well as performing regular maintenance and upgrades of electronic control systems. These systems include high-power RF amplifiers, EPICS control systems, motion control systems for beam control and diagnostics, safety interlock systems, power supplies and HV supplies and controls.

Key Responsibilities:

• Manage the development, construction and implementation of new control hardware and software systems required by the accelerators
• Develop and maintain existing control systems in both OS/2 and EPICS environments to ensure that the operational requirements of accelerator systems are met
• Assist with preparation of bid specifications and tender documentation, as well as partaking in tender processes
• Responsible for the supervision of a group of engineers and technicians for operations and maintenance of the control electronics and software systems
• Identify risks and ensure operational impacts are minimizedLead, manage and oversee projects schedules and budgetsFinancial Management: Preparing budget forecast for projects

Minimum Qualification:

• Masters Degree / NQF 9

Minimum Experience:

• 5-6 years

• M
• Eng / M
• Sc in Electronics Engineering

Experience:

• Practical experience in scientific/technical software engineering
• Practical experience in scientific/engineering computing and instrumentation

Knowledge:

• A minimum of 6 years’ relevant working experience in electronics engineering in a project environment with specific knowledge/experience in conceptual and detail engineering,A minimum of 5 years’ management experience in a similar positionExperience with and knowledge of high power, RF, analogue, digital, and high-speed digital electronicsExperience with digital signal processing techniques, hardware description language design, embedded programming, Linux development and control system theory
