About the position
MAIN PURPOSE OF JOB:
This is a fixed term contract position for a Quality Control Technologist to ensure compliance to various Quality Control parameters which involves online product checks and the testing of spice blends according to the GLP's, identifying non-conforming product and place the batches on hold. Finished goods quality control technologist - exposure to finished testing of finished products.
Online Requirements
- Verify cleaning practices, conduct random weight checks on packed stock, verify sealing integrity as acceptable, verify label information on packed
- Complete the QC Process control sheet accurately and pallet sheet, neatly and in full; all general checks required needs to be completed, co-signed where
- Ensure that all samples are taken for micro as per GLP when requested from Food Safety and ready for collection with correct batch details and your name/ signature is recorded on the
- Once general checks are conducted, QC Process Control sheet/ Packing Control Sheet completed/ pallet sheet signed/ quantities verified, and no non-conformances detected the batch may be accepted and will be processed.
- Ensure the CCP, Metal Detection process including the hourly verification are adhered to during the packing
- QC will be responsible to report any deviances or equipment failure of the metal detectors to the Production/ QC/FS
- Ensure that requested labels are supplied as soon as possible and indicated on Digiworks why extra labels was printed.
- Once general checks are conducted, QC Process Control sheet/ Packing Control Sheet completed/ pallet sheet signed/ quantities verified, and no non-conformances detected the batch may be accepted and will be processed.
Testing and laboratory requirements
- Obtain the specification from Digiworks and test all blended batches as per the routine QC checks to methods documented in the Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) file/ or as per Digiworks (Tests include pH; SO2; Salt; Bulk Density; Free Flow; particle size, moisture analysis, mince test, sodium).
- Report all/any non-conformances immediately to the relevant staff (Quality Control Team, Production, Planning) and place the batches on hold according to the GLP set
- Updating the product statuses on SYSPRO and ensuring that a sample of the batch tested is obtained with the relevant information recorded and stored in the correct retention sample
- Complete the QC Process control sheet and relevant registers in full when accepted or placed on
Adhoc projects related to Quality Control
- Assist with adhoc testing projects: Sodium and residual SO2 verification testing for raw material
- Assist with sampling in RMQC
- Administrative duties within the Quality Control Department
Tasks which relate to food quality and food safety
- Ensure gloves issued are registered and gloves are signed back at end of shift daily.
- Ensure other staff entering the laboratory and production staff adheres to the Personal Hygiene and Protective Clothing Policy
- Assist QC Coordinator with investigations of non-conformance batches when
- Conduct tasks relating to the continuous improvement of the food safety

Effective Communication
- Report on non-conforming batches and non-adherence to GMP's.
- Identifying non-conforming product and place the batches on hold through effective communication which includes system
Drive Environmental Awareness, Safety, Security and Health in the workplace whilst assessing risks continuously.
- Non-compliance reports to be investigated and actioned immediately. Root causes identified and the appropriate preventative and corrective measures taken and documented.
- All risks in the operation assessed and reported to the Health & Safety Representative and Health & Safety
- Prevent mixing waste and encourage waste separation at point source to the best of your ability.
